About the event

A performance “Antidote 2.0” by Lithuanian artist Azuolas Aukstuolis will be held at MASA cultural space on May 25 at 19:00.

Modern-day society faces a devastating illness – depression, which cannot be completely cured even in the age where humanity has more opportunities than ever. The performance aims to raise awareness of mental disorders by metaphorically letting the artist be "consumed" by depression to gain the antidote for others.

  • A silent auction of artist’s artworks will take place during the event.
  • The performance involves the infliction of bodily harm. Sensitive people, please
  • consider not attending the event, children are allowed to enter only if accompanied by an adult.

On May 27, from 13:00 till 16:00, there will be a conversation on the topic of performance “Antidote 2.0” and the issue of mental health. After the break, Azuolas will give a lecture on Lithuanian contemporary art, presenting Lithuanian artists and authors.

To get an antidote, you need to consume the poison. People discovered that by injecting an animal that hazes a solid immune system with venom, like a horse or sheep, you could create an antidote by extracting antibodies from that animal's blood. For humans, sacrificing lower life forms is a norm; anything for us to survive. In this case, I would be that horse; I would be that strong immune system that can fight the poison – depression. I would inject myself with concentrated depression and anxiety, throw my body, and create the antidote. After all, I have nothing to lose.
