About the event

As part of White Night 2023, MASA cultural space will host an interdisciplinary event called "Human Anthology" on September 9 from 18:00 to 23:00, in which the hidden truths of various states of "Human" will be revealed through the synthesis of diverse art forms.

The event will be built around Ričards Miezītis photo exhibition "Human Anthology”, which will be accompanied by musical concert performed by violist Jevgēnija Frolova and baroque soprano Aija Veismane, as well as dynamic light installations created with Puškina Street Lights, allowing images to go beyond the boundaries of photo paper and create color, light, and sound synthesis.

In a series of pictures, the photographer "collects" people with the intention of conveying the mystery of their feelings and moods while experimenting with light contrasts and textures.

Anthology - Greek word, ἀνθολογία (literally "a collection of blossoms", from ἄνθος, ánthos, flower)

“Like a bouquet of flowers, the gallery contains pictures of people that I have been collecting since 2021. Their emotions, the looks in their eyes, their postures, the environment they are in; together they create for me an idea of the concept of "Human", says Ričards Miezītis.

Program

- 18:00–23:00 Photo exhibition and light installations

- 19:00–19:30 and 20:00–20:30 Musical performance

• J.S. Bach – ‘’Adagio’’ in G minor from the first sonata for violin, overture for viola

• A. Vjetāns – ‘’Capriccio’’ for viola solo in C minor

• Cuello Piraquibis, Adrián Antonio – “Canción de cuna’’ for voice and viola

• Barbara Strozzi – “Che si puó fare?” for voice and viola

• John Cage - Arya

• Anna Veismane - "I sing" with the words of Emily Dickinson

Participants

Ričards Miezītis - specialized in conceptual photography, exploring the themes of identity, age and personal freedom. At the moment, prepare for another curated by MASA photo exhibition "Skin, under which I live", which will be held in Nosaints hidden bar.

Aija Veismane – graduated from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and the Academy of Arts in Bremen, major - ancient music singing. She is currently studying chamber music and performs as a soloist in both ensembles and choirs in concert venues in Latvia and Europe.

Jevgēnija Frolova - is a musician of the Kremerata Baltica orchestra. Studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Her recent activities include participation in the Angelika-Prokopp-Sommerakademie der Wiener Philharmoniker, Salzburger Festspiele. Her professional orchestral experience includes the Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra (Sweden), the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as the Danish Chamber Orchestra.

Puškina Street Lights - Liva Zolnerovica and Reinis Indāns, analog light artists, enliven the atmosphere and mesmerize with unrepeatable spontaneous motions of dynamic light abstraction. The Puškina Street lights were created by combining a great interest in 1960s and 1970s psychedelic culture with an accidently discovered kodascope. The newly formed psychedelic music was complemented by an equally dynamic visual accompaniment.

Curator - Ksenija Afanasjeva
